~ Langston Hughes ~February 1,1902 James Langston Hughes was born to an abolitionist family and died May 22 1967. Langston hughes attended central High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He began writing poetry in eighth grade and was selected as class poet. Langston deopped out of the program with a B+. His first most famous poem that was published was "The Negro Speaks of Rivers"."The Negro Speaks of Rivers"By Langston HughesI've known rivers: I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow of human blood in human veins. My soul has grown deep like the rivers. I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young.I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep. I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln went down to New Orleans, and I've seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset. I've known rivers: Ancient, dusky rivers.My soul has grown deep like the rivers. ~ I think this poem has to do with sadness and the death of someone or something.I also think it could be talking about cleaning someone's sin. When it says "My soul has grown deep like the river" I believe he could be saying that his soul has grown really big and have given him some kind of confidents.

By:Langston Hughes I hope that fear never touches you and if it does I hope you know your bravado to look it in the eye and walk right past it I hope you know you have wings wider than most people’s I hope you know you have a soul prettier than almost everyone, I hope you know you have spirit fierce and yet serene I hope you know you are someone special and even if you don’t ask meI’ll still tell you that you have always been someone I would always carry in my heart as long as I shall be. ~When I read this I thought it was talking about not letting anything get in your way or letting nothing fear you. I also think this poem means that if you don't show fear that fear will not come to you. If you have a good sprit and keep it that way you will not only have people believing in you but you will have more belief in your own self.~
